Les Rayons et les Ombres

for fanfare orchestra (2014)

ca. 6 min./10 min. (extended version)

Royal Fanfare Band 'Kempenbloei' from Achel (Belgium) commissioned this work for their entering in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade. The piece was inspired by the music of Guillaume Lekeu. A lot of Lekeu's work was based on the writings of Victor Hugo. One of the French Poet's most notable works, 'Les Rayons et les Ombres', litteraly translates to the rays and the schadows. They represent the eternal struggle between light and dark, good and evil... The internal struggle of man himself, where the good tries to find its way out of the darkness of self-regard.
